Just about a month ago we heard about Sprint’s plans to make purchasing a new smartphone a little more convenient, putting the kibosh on rebates you have to prepare and mail-in yourself, in favor of delivering those savings to you immediately at check-out. At the time, Sprint had made it clear that this was to be a limited-time offer, but we had no idea just how limited an engagement Sprint had in mind. A leaked Sprint document now offers a potential end date for the program, with plans to wrap things up on May 7.

It’s a shame to see this offer expire, as there was nothing not to like about it; it saved the absent-minded among us from missing out on the rebate money that should have been coming our way, and eliminated the months and months of waiting it can usually take before you you finally receive the money you’re entitled to.

Officially, Sprint maintains that the offer is still running and no end to it has been announced. Since this leaked material looks quite legitimate, and Sprint passed on the opportunity to formally reject the May 7 end date as incorrect, we’re inclined to believe there’s truth in these rumors. We’ll be sad to see it go, but hopefully Sprint will think about starting it back up in the future.
