As noted by 9to5mac that Apple is seeking engineers to improve and enhance iOS Maps app and to take it to the upper level. Engineer will work on “innovative features” and “sophisticated user interfaces” according to the Apple’s job posting.
It remains to be seen whether they’re simply adding new features on top of the Google-provided mapping data or a developing a brand new solution that would see Apple license its own satellite imagery, turn-by-turn data and so forth. If anything, we now know for a fact that they’re working on a crowd-sourced traffic service, which they claim is a few years away.
So far there’s no more details, but as usual I’ll keep you infromed with updates, stay tuned.
