A couple of days ago, the guys at Applidium made a Siri Security protocol hack breakthrough. In addition to reversing the protocol, they have posted the process and the tools online for developers to implement Siri in third-party applications. Though the process seems really simple and a major step closer to having Siri on older iOS devices. there was still a catch.

The process requires the unique identifier of an iPhone 4S to use as a calling card which allows Apple to block any Apple ID involved in such process.

Making the best of this breakthrough, hacker Plamoni has created a proxy server which can be used by anyone to have a Siri control on a range of non-Apple devices. Plamoni has taught Siri new commands that allows it to communicate with any standard,Wi-Fi capable thermostat.

Anyone now with access to an iPhone 4S unique identifier and a good knowledge of networking basics can hack Siri in a similar manner considering that the server`s source code is available online for free.

The setup involves a DNS server on a personal network that uses the proxy to forward requests sent to Apple’s Siri servers (guzzoni.apple.com). When asked whether this process can pave the way to Siri port to older devices, he said.

Short answer: No.

Longer answer: While this doesn’t let you do such a thing, it could HELP with such a thing. For instance, if you get Siri installed on your iPhone 4 (don’t ask me how to do this, I really don’t know), and you get someone to give you a valid iPhone 4S UDID (don’t ask me for mine, I will ignore your request), you could use this proxy in order to substitute the valid UDID for your device’s invalid UDID. It would be pretty trivial. Of course, that would allow anyone with access to the proxy use your UDID, so I’d recommend against that sort of action on anything externally accessible without performing some sort of authentication (might I suggest, checking the phone’s UDID? hehe).

A quick reminder for you guys, jailbreakers successfully ported Siri to iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G. However, the files required for the hack were acquired illegally which means if publicly released, it will be in violation of Apple`s rights.
