Research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) reports that vendors shipped 153 million smartphones in the second quarter of 2012 compared to 108.3 million units in the second quarter of 2011, a year-over-year growth of 42%.
Apple shipped 26 million iPhones in the quarter, a year-over-year growth of 27.5%. However, IDC estimates that Samsung shipped 50.2 million smartphones in the last quarter, a year-over-year growth of a whopping 172.8%.
