The iPhone 5 looks somewhat like the 4S. However, there are a number of things that change it like a larger screen, a faster processor and a new unibody design.

This new unibody design could be a bit troublesome for aftermarket back panels. This is because previously they had a single panel glass, but this is part aluminum and part glass and is directly attached to its internal components.

This is what Monolith a mod kit maker had to say:

“It’s a tough one for the iPhone 5. It looks like it’s a different animal than the iPhone 4,” Monolith told us. “Similar to the iPhone 3G/3GS, it looks like the structure of the phone consists of the internal components being directly attached to the back. Although the 5 looks to be more unibody than the 3G. I think that makes it impossible to actually replace it, short of a crazy hack.”

This makes making custom back panels close to impossible as it would require a complete attachment wit the new back panel and its nothing like the previous iPhone offered where opening two screws and sliding the panel back could remove it.

However, there will be a lot more different ways to customize the iPhone 5. Mendmyi (https://mendmyi.com/) has already started working on a number of ways to customize the iPhone and so get ready for something different.

All this means that it’s going to be a lot difficult for third party customizers to make money, and they will have to come up with new ways to customize the iPhone 5.
