The latest iPhone from Apple is now off and running for order for the last couple of days. The response has been good as expected, but there are certain glitches as well. These glitches have attracted a tad concern from many users. A main concern that has been often reported is that of the preference of an Apple Maps application instead of Google Maps as convention. While some may term it as a decent initiative but many have said that this is a step in the wrong direction by Apple.
A lot of comments are directed at the fact that the Maps application from Apple is not compatible with that of Google. There isn’t much information in the maps than what Google has to offer in theirs. While some of the negativity might be overdone owing to the fact that this is just a latest initiative from Apple, some concerns are right.
More often than not these days, we have been seen comparative analysis where people have shown the competitive edge that Google Maps has over Apple Maps. Google Maps is better in the sense that it has more information about the whereabouts. Along with street names, we also see related businesses and information that is valuable for those who are searching.
As has been the case in previous occasions, it is expected that a jailbreak solution would be available for the iPhone users before Apple does something through updates. This time around the solution comes from Ryan Petrich. He has been able to work out the functionality of an iOS 5 Google Maps version to run on iOS 6 on a 3GS. There is a video as well. A lot of fame follows Petrich in the jailbreak community as he is known as a dedicated developer. He is often the first person that people look up to come forth with a solution.
In the vide one is able to see the demo of the access to Settings.app; which runs on iOS 6. So, initially Petrich compels the viewer to believe that OS is iOS 6 indeed. This is also depicted via the Passbook app. Further the video also shows the Apple Maps in the running mode. In addition to this, we also see the Google Maps running with some features also being showed. He shifts between the standard and satellite modes to show the accurate functionality.
The developer is honest enough to admit that there are certain areas that need working out. The public release of this is not ready as yet since he is yet to circumvent the crashing issues. However, the video does its effect in providing hope to people who want to see the Google Maps version working on iOS 6 too. As of now, the jailbreak is available for A4 devices. In order to jailbreak iOS 6, a sequential protocol is available. Developers are also working to make a iPhone 5 jailbreak as well. Hoping that it would come out soon enough.
