Some stats are really very weird and they seem insignificant. Like this report by Opower, an energy efficient company that has estimated that it will cost 41 cents in an entire year to charge your iPhone 5. Although it’s a very insignificant amount it’s still 3 cents more than what the iPhone 4 takes.

However, the iPhone 5 takes a lot less than the Samsung Galaxy SIII that costs 53 cents a year to charge.

Apple has been increasing the capacity in their lithium-ion rechargeable batteries so they can hold more charge. This gives the iPhone 5 more battery life for battery consuming tasks like using 4G and Wi-Fi. It also helps when the processor is more powerful and gives users more to do.

This also means you use more electricity to charge your cellphones.

These numbers are based on the fact that you change your phone from 0-100% once every day and that the devices are charged while being switched off. However, not a lot of people let the battery drain to 0% before charging and nor do they charge by powering off their cell phones. It also depends on usage since some people have their phone on standby most of the times while others constantly use theirs.

They even show a chart that has some energy consuming statistics in which there are different devices mentioned. It has Cell phones and tablets, and then moving on to laptops, digital frames, desktops, gaming consoles and a plasma TV. An interesting report but it has no real world sage as such for the common consumer.
