We posted earlier today about a skeptical but possible untethered jailbreak for all iOS 6 iDevices, including the iPhone 5, iPad Mini + others. The DreamJB team have uploaded a youtube video (shown below) which has been confirmed fake by many users within the Jailbreak community including MuscleNerd. The video is one of the most, if not THE most, well done fakes we have ever seen, but even the best fake still has some discrepancies. Now, other than the fact that the DreamJB “developer” has already admitted that this was nothing more than a “social experiment,” here are some glaring issues with the video that disprove it’s authenticity:
- The device is clearly using Redsn0w’s verbose boot option and the loading bar is identical to the one displayed by Redsn0w.
- When the device reboots, it boots straight to the home screen(iPhone’s ALWAYS boot to the lockscreen).
- The date on the calendar app displays December 10th, even though this video was supposedly made today(the 12th).
So basically, what the person did was they took a screen capture of a Redsn0w compatible device going through the jailbreak process and then either played back or overlayed the video onto their iPhone 5.
Below you will find the DreamJB’s ‘proof‘ video they have just uploaded. MuscleNerd has pointed out that the progress bar used as well as the verbose text output have simply been copied from their work on RedSn0w. He has also mentioned there are at least 5 giveaways proving this claim is simply fake.
Update: They have since removed the video.
As much as we wished this jailbreak was true, unfortunately it is not. We will all have to continue to wait patiently for the actual thing to be released at some point.
