This Sunday, is the highly anticipated Super Bowl between the 49ers and Ravens, but for those of you iOS device users, you might be happy to hear that the release of the jailbreak for iOS 6.1, the new iOS firmware released earlier today, may also be released on Sunday as well. In the past, the jailbreak developers have had a tradition of releasing jailbreaks on Sunday and it appears as though the new jailbreak may follow the same day of release. In a recent tweet, MuscleNerd asks what people have planned for Sunday with a mention of the evad3rs dev team.

After Apple released the public version of iOS 6.1, MuscleNerd and Pimskeks both confirmed that 6.1 still contains the necessary exploits to run the new jailbreak and it looks VERY likely that the jailbreak will be released on Sunday, and possibly even earlier than that.

What should I do to prepare for the jailbreak?

There are a few basic steps that people should be aware before performing any jailbreak. Most important among these, is to back up your data. Restoring a firmware and performing a jailbreak is a great way to lose your contacts, photos, SMS, etc. Backing up the device before restoring your firmware is always a great idea. Also, it is best to do a fresh restore to 6.1 before performing the jailbreak, this ensures that there are not any leftover settings or content.

Aside from the usual suggestions before jailbreaking, several devs have also been saying that you should NOT use the OTA update to update your device to iOS 6.1, this is because OTA updates generate a different SHSH key than if you had restored through iTunes.

What will be the first jailbreak tweak you will be using once the jailbreak is released? We would love to hear it!
