Previous reports suggested that the home button on iPhone 5S will be convex in shape to complement the new fingerprint sources. However, it appears Gurman has a different option as per his sources that’ve allegedly used the handset;
Also contrary to recent talk, the new Home button’s design will not be noticeably convex. Perhaps the shape has changed, but the tweaked button is nothing distinct enough for the iPhone 5S to be identified as anything but an iPhone 5 by the untrained eye. There’s the possibility, however, that the etching and border of the Home button could become more shiny and look slightly different.
Looks like Apple wants to keep the feature as secret as possible, which is why no leaks or even prototype inclusions have surfaced on the web so far.
Gurman also mentions new details on iOS. The iPhone version of the software is near completion, but the iPad version of the latest firmware is running slow, and can even end up requiring more time than originally stated.
Many developers have noted that the iOS 7 builds for iPad feel unstable and unreliable compared to the iPhone-optimized betas. The reason, as we’ve noted before, is that Apple started on iOS 7 for iPhone prior to building for the iPad. Perhaps as proof for this, Apple did not ship an iOS 7 beta for iPad until two weeks after the initial iPhone iOS 7 beta. A similar situation is potentially in the cards for the public launch of iOS 7.
He says that iOS 7 for iPad could be launched with next-generation iPads- sometime in October. Apple can also release iPad compatibility in the form of an update like iOS 7.0.1.
Gurman also talks about future releases of the software, iOS 7.1 and also iOS 8. According to him, Apple is working on Car iOS advancements and offering Siri-API to third-party developers.
What you can look forward to this fall – iOS 7, new iPads, new iPhones. It all starts on September 10th.
