We reported previously that Microsoft was also going to include Apple’s iPhone in its $200 trade-in program. And today, the promotion has been made active. It is being promoted as part of Windows 8 and Windows phone #timetoswitch campaign that is running on social media, television and print.

Microsoft has also teamed up with CExchnage to attract more people to bring in iPhone and receive $200 credit for using at Microsoft Store. The iPhone 5 or 4S can be traded at any Microsoft Store in U.S. Canada and Puerto Rico.

Traders will then receive the credit amount that will be placed on gift card, which can be redeemed at any purchase on the Microsoft Store. However, it is a single customer promotion that will end on 3rd November. More details are available at Microsoft’s store website.

The company is hoping that it may be able to lure some people to Windows handsets, which don’t have a great chance as Apple followers are brand loyal.

The promotion is not available in online store and can’t be availed against any other iPhone expect iPhone 5 and 4s.

To be eligible for trade-in, device should include power cord, if available, and device cannot be password protected. Microsoft Store gift-card value will be equal to trade-in value, and is subject to Microsoft’s discretion and manager approval.

However, stores such as Gazelle are offering better iPhone trade-in deals that go on till mid-October.
It is also important to note that incase of Microsoft’s deal, consumers have to repurchase desired apps on Windows Phone Store because Apple’s FairPlay DRM only allows iOS devices to decode iTunes purchases.
