Facebook has finally launched a new Messenger app for the iPhone. The design has been updated to match the look and feel of iOS 7, and it has striking resemblance to the Messenger app for Android.

Other features that came along with the update will allow user to see which contacts are active on the Messenger app and messages from different people as long as their number is stored in the phonebook.

The Newsroom has the description about the app from Facebook directly:

“As more and more people use Facebook to connect with their friends on mobile, we are focused on building the best mobile products. Facebook messaging started as a desktop chat experience, but when it comes to messaging on mobile, people want something faster and lighter weight.”

Here are some additional screenshots of the app;

 Facebook also says that the new Messenger will be available to the masses using Android and iOS starting from today. And it will be available as a free download all over the globe.

Have you tried the new version of Facebook Messenger yet? Thoughts?
