Though the expected time for its appearance was April, it can happen much sooner because lately, Samsung has sent out invites to ‘Samsung Unpacked 5’ – a media event that is scheduled for 24th February in Barcelona.
The press release from Samsung’s blog says:
“You’ve been waiting for a long time for this. Samsung Unpacked 2014 Episode 1 is coming up!
At previous Samsung Unpacked events, we’ve shown you the ‘The Next Big Thing.’ On March 2013, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S4, on September 2013, Galaxy Note 3 and Gear. These events were also live-streamed on official Samsung channels. Live blogging was also available on Samsung Tomorrow.
At the Samsung Unpacked 2014 on Monday, February, 2014 what can you expect to see? Mark the date and come visit us to see the unpacking of The Next Big Thing(?.. even the Samsung Tomorrow team doesn’t know yet), live on global.samsungtomorrow.comâ€
It doesn’t say a lot, but the event can be just for introducing Samsung’s next Galaxy flagship. It’s hard to see what else they can offer, though they haven’t introduced a phone at MWC since 3 years.
As for the iPhone 5s, it is expected to feature an 8-core 64-bit processor, 4,000 mAh battery, a display of 1440p and 16 megapixel camera, and its expected in metal as well as plastic bodies.
The Galaxy phones are the most fierce iPhone competitors, and if the numbers mentioned in the report hold true, Apple will have some work to do.
The Unpacked 5 event will take place at 2pm Eastern Time and 11 am Pacific time, and will be streamed live on youtube.com/samsungmobile.
We will keep you informed.
