The world of consumer technology that both these giants are involved in has developed rapidly over the past few years. However, seemingly the focus has been shifting from the products in the discussion of patent battles between the big guns.
A company statement (joint) was released on Friday confirming the positive action taken by Google and Apple to de-escalate the situation, allowing both companies to focus on future innovations and products:
Apple and Google have agreed to dismiss all the current lawsuits that exist directly between the two companies. Apple and Google have also agreed to work together in some areas of patent reform.
Although both of the companies are positive towards ending of the court battle, the deal doesn’t include seeing one another’s technology licensed amongst companies. This is hardly a surprise considering both are direct competitors with Android and iOS.
It’s good to know they are no longer battling in the good news, but the bigger picture is that they plan to focus on innovation, which means good news for consumers sitting at home. Rather than filling pockets of the legal system or patent lawyers, both companies can free up time and resources to develop better products and services. We just hope Apple also comes to a similar agreement with Samsung in court.
