In the months leading up to the iPhone 6 announcement, several rumors were circulating claiming that the smartphone would feature a highly-durable sapphire crystal display. So, naturally, when Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller was on stage at the Flint Center to unveil the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus last week, many were anxiously anticipating him to echo the words “sapphire crystal display” to the audience. But the announcement came and went with no mention of the ultra-durable glass, and now it is reported that Apple never had plans to use the material in the first place.Â
