According to a new study performed by software company called Opower, it finds that the cost to charge an iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is just 47 cents per year and 52 cents per year respectively based on average U.S. electricity costs.
The costs were calculated by determining the kilowatt-hours that an iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus consume per year using a Watts Up Pro Electricity Consumption Meter. The results showed that the iPhone 6 uses about 10.5 watt-hours ofelectricity per charge, while the iPhone 6 Plus and its larger battery capacity require about 16 watt-hours per charge.
Those were then multiplied by 365 days and it was determined that the iPhone 6 uses about 3.8 kilowatt-hours and the iPhone 6 Plus uses about 4.2 kilowatt-hours per year. At an average US retail price of 12.29 cents per kilowatt-hour, the aforementioned dollar amounts were then determined.
On the other hand, the study finds that a laptop can consume up to 14 times more electricity than charging an iPhone, while a desktop uses 49 times more electricity and an Xbox One uses up to 61 times more power. All in all, you shouldn’t be too worried about charging your iPhone — it’s quite an energy efficient device after all.
