Leading up to the end of 2014, and the inexorable arrival of 2015, Apple has decided to share the top downloaded iOS apps of the year.

The lists, which have been posted in the App Store, include top paid apps for iPhone and iPad, top free apps for iPhone and iPad, and the top grossing apps for iPhone and iPad.

On Tuesday, December 23, Apple shared a series of lists that tally the most downloaded apps from the App Store for iOS, with highlights of the Top Paid for iPad, Top Free for iPad, and the Top Paid and Top Free for iPhone. Each list has plenty of common elements, including Minecraft – Pocket Edition, and of course names like Facebook and YouTube appear as well.
For the iPad, the top free app downloaded from the App Store was YouTube, with Netflix showing up in a close second. Calculator for iPad Free was in third place, with Skype for iPad and Microsoft Word filling out the Top 5. The rest of the list breaks down like this:

The most downloaded paid apps for the iPad include plenty of games, includingMinecraft – Pocket Edition, Cut the Rope 2, and Heads Up! filling the Top 3. The Room Two and Survivalcraft rounded out the Top 5, with the rest of the list as follows:

As far as the iPhone goes, the most downloaded apps for the smartphone in the free category include Facebook Messenger at the top of the list, Snapchat at the number two spot, and YouTube in the third place. Facebook and Instagram fill in the final Top 5 ranks.
