Nicholas Allegra a.k.a Comex seems to have hacked Apple Watch. He has published a video which shows a web browser running on Apple Watch.

Comex is a well-known hacker, and developer of jailbreak tools such as JailbreakMe and Spirit, which were the easiest jailbreaks ever to be released, as it allowed users to jailbreak their iPhone using mobile Safari.

The hacker tweeted, “I always wanted a web browser on my wrist.”

At this point it’s unclear how comex was Apple to get the browser running on the smartwatch, as this isn’t something currently permitted by Apple. Perhaps he was able to load UIKit into WatchOS. Or, perhaps he has jailbroken the Apple Watch!

The Apple Watch doesn’t come pre-installed with Safari for obvious reasons. As you can see in the video below, navigating across the webpage on the small screen doesn’t look very practical.

Comex let us know that “Watch OS is based on UIKit already, but the SDK doesn’t allow running any native code.” How he was able to get past the SDK’s restrictions is still a mystery but we’ll let you know when we hear more!
