General Motors announced today that 2016 model year products from its luxury car division Cadillac will feature enhanced connectivity and control thanks to the addition of CarPlay and Android Auto. The move is part of a broader enhancement to CUE, Cadillac’s infotainment/user experience portal.

“Apple CarPlay will debut in 2016 Cadillac models featuring CUE’s 8-in multi-touch screen except the SRX Crossover, a model that will move to an all-new generation in early 2016. Android Auto is expected to be phased into 2016 production at a later date. The 2016 model year will begin this summer.“

With CarPlay, 2016 Cadillac owners will be able to use the 8-inch touchscreen to access features like Apple Maps, Music, Contacts, Podcasts, the MLB At Bat app, and other apps. Siri can also be accessed with CarPlay, allowing for quick, voice-prompted actions to keep the driver’s hands free to remain on the steering wheel.

Apple introduced CarPlay in the spring of 2014 as a “smarter, safer way to use your iPhone in the car.” The company has taken criticism for its “lack of focus” on the feature and slow roll out. Several car manufacturers have pledged support for CarPlay, but a year later few of them have vehicles available.
