Unlike previous iPhones, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus come with a capacitive home button that is paired with the Taptic Engine to provide haptic feedback every time it is touched. Now since the home button on the iPhone plays a very vital part, it can be troublesome for users if it starts malfunctioning for some reason.

So plugged in my iPhone 7 to charge and it turned itself off. When i powered it back up this appeared on screen. Really Apple?

The message reads…

The Home Button May Need Service
In the meantime, you can use the onscreen Home button below.

The new solid state Home button on the iPhone 7 is designed to be durable, responsive, and pressure sensitive. It gives you precise tactile feedback as you press by working in tandem with a new Taptic Engine. You can even set its haptic feedback level to your liking.

Since the home button on the iPhone 7 is capacitive in nature, it does not work when the device is switched off. Due to this, Apple has had to change the way on how one can hard reset the device compared to previous iPhones that shipped with a physical home button.
