Apple upcoming iPhone 8 is widely expected to come in a bezel-free display and it will lack a physical home button. In a note to investors, KGI securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that iPhone 8 will have a so-called “Function area” right below the main display.

The rumored “Function area” of the iPhone 8 is expected to work in a similar way to how the Touch Bar works on Apple’s latest crop Macbook Pro line. Based on the available information, a designer has come up with an iPhone 8 concept in which he imagines how the rumored “Function area” may work on the upcoming iPhone. He also imagines the bezel-less design of the device.

Apple is expected to be working on removing the physical Home button from its next-generation iPhone model. The Touch ID recognition and the Home button work is expected to be handled by a sensor embedded right beneath the display. This is how the screen will expand below its normal limits, resulting in a Touch Bar like working area on the iPhone.

The designer has visualized how MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar can be repurposed for use on an iPhone. The result is super cool and without a doubt, this may end up opening plenty of room for future development and new ways to use the Function area.

The demo video shows how the Function area can be used to display icons, controllers, buttons, and information that normally is not available as conveniently on the traditional display size.

If the Apple is really going to ditch the physical Home button with iPhone 8, it better look something like this concept rather than just adding another row of icons.
