Apple’s upcoming 5.8-inch iPhone model, dubbed as iPhone 8, is widely rumored to come with a curved display. A new report from a Japanese website Nikkei Asian Review claims that although the iPhone 8 display will be curved, but not as curved as the Samsung Galaxy S7.
According to the source, the curve will be gentler than the Samsung’s Galaxy S7 smartphone. Partly, the reason behind not being as curved as the S7 is the challenges to make curved glass covers to match screens.
While the iPhone 8 with a curved display will become sleeker and will allow a viewable area of about 5.2-inches, it won’t add any significant new functions to the device, according to the source.
KGI securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo and a Chinese research firm TrendForce have suggested that Apple’s special edition iPhone 8 will have the same gently curve on its 2.5D display as found on the iPhone 6 of year 2014, but it will be OLED one.
Another report from IHS Markit said that it “anticipates Apple will adopt a flat implementation of OLED design on their special iPhone model, which is analogous to the current 2.5D glass design.”
