Samsung Galaxy Note 8

Samsung has finally unveiled its flagship smartphone called the Galaxy Note 8 to compete against Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8 device. While the Note 8 takes much from the Galaxy S8 but it comes with its own set of new features and enhancements to better compete with Apple’s upcoming 2017 iPhone lineup.

In Galaxy Note 8, Samsung has used an almost identical design language as found in the Galaxy S8, however, the Note is not as curvy and has squarish corners. Just like previous Note models, there’s a slot at the bottom right corner for the S Pen. The device is dust and water resistant with IP68 certification. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 has been used on the front and back of the device and an aluminum chassis sandwiched in between.

The Galaxy Note 8 features a 6.3-inch QHD+ Infinity Display which is slightly bigger than the one used on the Galaxy S8+. From the front, the device gives a bezel-less look and the display has an 18.5:9 aspect ratio.

Diving deep into the internal specifications, the Galaxy Note 8 is powered by a Snapdragon 835/Exynos 8895 chipset clocked at 2.45GHz. Other than that it has a 6GB of RAM, 64GB internal storage (expandable with SDcard), USB-C with fast charging, fast wireless charging, and a 3300mAh battery among other specs. The fingerprint sensor keeps the odd location of the Galaxy S8 and also features iris and face unlocking.

On the Note S-Pen side, there is not many improvement hardware wise, however, the software has been improved to take better advance of the stylus. These software improvements include a more advanced Always On Display allowing users to pin and edit notes and more. Other than that the translation feature has also been improved.

The most prominent change in Galaxy Note 8 over the Galaxy S8 is the inclusion of dual-camera setup on the rear of the Note 8. With this, Note 8 has become the first Samsung device to get a dual-camera system. The primary camera remains the same as the Galaxy S8 – 12MP with 1.4um large pixels, f/1.7 aperture, and OIS. The second camera has a telephoto lens allowing up to 2x zoom and has f/2.4 aperture and OIS. With this dual-lens camera setup, the Note 8 also gets the Portrait mode similar to the one Apple released with iPhone 7 Plus. The big difference is that Note 8 allows you to focus point after taking a photo. On the front side, there is an 8MP f/1.7 shooter.

Samsung’s latest flagship will run Android 7.1.1 Nougat when launched with an overlay of Samsung’s new Experience UI. The Galaxy Note 8 will be available for pre-order across all major carriers in the United State from August 24th in Midnight Black and Orchid Gray color options. The device will hit the shelves of the retail outlets on September 15th. For those who order a Note 8 between August 24th and September 24th, Samsung is bundling a free Gear 360 camera or a pack (Galaxy Foundation Kit) of 128GB microSD card and a fast wireless charger.
