This year, Apple unveiled three new iPhone models. Two of which succeeded the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, while the third one called ‘iPhone X’ turned out to be the star of the show. Apple has already launched iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in September. However, statistical analysis of the data collected by the Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) shows that iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus failed to impress when it comes to the number of units sold by for these devices.

The data shows that combined sales of iPhone 8 and 8 Plus only accounted for 16% of total iPhone sales in the previous quarter. For comparison sake, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus accounted for 58% of total iPhone sales in the same period of their launch.

This clearly shows that the demand for these two new devices is not so great. Since the focus is all on the upcoming iPhone X, slow sales of iPhone 8/Plus are not surprising at all. Apple is all set to launch iPhone X on November 3 with the pre-orders going live for the device on coming Friday.

The data also shows that people have considered iPhone 7 and 7 Plus over the new iPhone 8/Plus due to the significant price cut following the official unveiling of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus during the September media event.

The study says “Both the newly reduced-price iPhone 7 and 7 Plus and older iPhone models continue to see strong demand. The 7 and 7 Plus account for 58% of sales in the quarter, much higher than the 35% for the then year-old iPhone 6S and 6S Plus in September 2016.”

It is worth noting that these results are based on the study of 500 customers who purchased an iPhone in the US during last quarter. The data does not take into account the global sales figure of iPhone 8 lineup for a global trend. Still, this is a good metric to go by given the lukewarm response by people to the newly launched iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus on its launch day. These two new devices failed to see the iconic lines of buyers outside Apple retail stores.

The iPhone X, however, is expected to see a way better response from the Apple lovers when it hits the shelves of retail stores next week.
