Samsung is said to copy an iOS feature that is currently exclusive to iPhone X only with their Galaxy S9. Yes, Samsung will feature an Animoji rip off in their upcoming flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S9 lineup.
Samsung is going to call the feature as 3D Emoji. The feature will make use of the built-in iris scanner and the front-facing camera to the capture the facial movements and expressions. So, just like Animoji, the 3D Emoji feature of Galaxy S9 will allow its users to create animated emojis using their facial expressions and movements.
Since Samsung is rumored to not introduce a Face ID like facial scanning feature in Galaxy S9, the 3D Emojis won’t work as reliably as Animoji does on the iPhone X. It remains unclear how many animated characters Samsung plans on introducing with the launch of Galaxy S9.
Other than Animoji, Samsung is also planning on copying the stereo speaker setup of the iPhone X and the iPhone 8. Samsung will make use of stereo speakers tuned by AKG in its Galaxy S9, but similar to iPhone X, they won’t be front-facing. One of the speakers will be integrated within the earpiece to act as a tweeter while the other will be bottom firing.
Just like Apple, Samsung is going to create differences between the two variants of Galaxy S9 devices. The larger Galaxy S9+ will feature a dual camera setup while the smaller Galaxy S9 will have a single primary shooter on the rear. This was not the case up until Galaxy S8, where the company used the same camera set up across its Galaxy lineup.
Samsung is all set to introduce Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ on February 25. The smaller handset is expected to cost around $930, while the larger S9+ with the dual-camera setup is expected to cost around $1000.
