A new report from a Chinese news outlet claims that Apple is planning on unveiling its latest crop of iPad Pro devices at WWDC 2018. The report also claims that the new iPad Pro will feature an 11-inch display panel, though that’s highly-unlikely of Apple given their current iPad Pro lineup.
Last year, Apple unveiled a 10.5-inch iPad Pro featuring a thinner bezel. The company is widely expected to continue the same design language while ditching the home button and introducing the Face ID. Other upgrades are likely to be related to the internal hardware. The new iPad Pro is expected to feature an A11X Bionic chipset and display related improvements are also likely on the cards.
The upgraded A11X Bionic processor will feature eight cores for even superior performance. Apple will continue to source display panels from LG Display for the updated iPad. Alongside a refresh of 10.5-inch iPad Pro, the company is also expected to refresh the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with faster internal hardware. It remains unclear whether if it will sport thinner bezels and Face ID or not. The report cites analyst Jun Zhang from Rosenblatt Securities that the new iPad will enter mass production by the end of this month followed by an unveiling at the end of second quarter.
The report also claims that Apple won’t be releasing the new iPhone SE model in the first half of 2018. The Ming-Chi Kuo has made a similar prediction by claiming that Apple won’t be launching a new iPhone SE models because company is already eyeing three new iPhone models for 2018. The company does not have enough resources to work on an iPhone SE alongside these three new models.
Similar to iPhone X, the company could extend the 10.5-inch iPad Pro’s display to an 11-inch display by ditching the Home button. This also means that Apple will have to introduce gestures on the new iPad Pro for navigation. However, whether the larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro would receive a similar treatment, is something that only time will tell. From what the rumors and reports and claimed so far, it looks like the removal of home button and introduction of Face ID are the two changes that only the smaller 10.5-inch iPad Pro will get.
