With this new 9.7-inch iPad with Apple Pencil support, Apple is eyeing to capitalize on the 200,000+ educational apps available for the iOS platform. The addition of the Apple pencil support at the entry level model of iPad lineup will definitely help Apple by making it a perfect tool for students.

Appl will also be updating its iWork suite of apps for the digital stylus input to take advantage of the Apple Pencil support. This way, both teachers, and students will be able to take advantage of the collaboration features that are a part of iWork apps.

The latest 9.7-inch iPad models feature Apple’s A10 chipset, which is a big specs bump over the fifth-gen iPad that features Apple’s A9X chipset. On the back, it has an 8MP shooter and the company promises up to 10-hours of battery life. Other specs of the new iPad include 32GB storage, FaceTime HD front camera, Touch ID, GPS, LTE connectivity (optional), and the usual set of sensors.

If you were expecting the 2018 model of 9.7-inch iPad to be cheaper than its predecessor, prepare to be disappointed. The newly announced iPad still costs $329. Schools, however, can get the latest iPad models for $299 for their students. The Apple Pencil can be purchased separately and students will get $10 discount on the $99 Apple Pencil.
