With the Galaxy S9 not doing particularly well for Samsung, the company has turned its attention to the Galaxy Note 9 and the Galaxy S10. While the Note 9 will be unveiled first, it is the Galaxy S10 whose rumors have started making the rounds of the internet. A report from The Bell points to Samsung unveiling the Galaxy S10 in CES 2019 early next year.

Considering the phone assembly takes about three months, a foldable Galaxy or whatever it ends up being called could be unveiled early next year, possibly at the Mobile World Congress in February 2019. Initial production volume has been slashed to about 300,000-500,000 units in an effort to minimize risk and gauge the phone’s marketability.

We know the project exists because Samsung’s executives have acknowledged it.

While a smartphone with a foldable display definitely sounds cool, it remains to be seen just how practical it would be in daily use. Samsung will also have to ensure that the foldable smartphone has no reliability issues. The success of foldable smartphones depends on how they are implemented. If done right, Samsung might have a huge winner on its hands. If not, then it would just turn out to be a passing fad.
