We’ve already discussed Ming-Chi Kuo’s prediction for the iPhone and iWatch – now we’re going to talk about what he has to say about Apple’s upcoming iPads.

According to the credible analyst, the company is planning to launch an iPad Air 2 as well as a new Retina iPad mini. He says both the tabs will receive A8 processors, along with outfitted Home buttons and Touch ID technology.

The following research note was passed by MacRumors:

“We think the upgraded iPad Air will be launched earlier in 2014 than the iPad Air was in 2013. The biggest changes will be A8 processor, Touch ID (fingerprint recognition), and main camera resolution of 8MP.
…We previously thought Apple would not release a new version of the iPad mini this year, but we now think Apple will launch an upgraded version with same form factor, A8 processor and Touch ID (fingerprint recognition) to boost shipments of iPad mini with Retina display.”

The analyst informs that Apple is planning to launch a new Retina iPad mini this year, which may be in light of the lower sales of the current model. He thinks poor performance was because of the heavy, thick build – the mistake Apple also made with iPad 3.

For the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, Ming is sticking with his prediction that it won’t arrive this year. He says Apple is working on the tab, which will focus on productivity and entertainment, but it will likely come in 2015.

Apple is expected to release the new iPad Air and iPad mini in fall, alongside two large-sized iPhones and several other products. Kuo also says Apple will keep one of the two iPads around and sell them at a discount.
