Staples Now Accepting Apple Pay In Its Retail Stores

While some retailers are busy in removing Apple Pay support from their PoS, Staples has gone ahead and begun accepting payments via Apple Pay in its retail stores.

According to MacRumors. The company announced in September that it would be supporting the payment system, but didn’t offer a specific timeframe for its rollout.

Staples now offers its customers access to Apple Pay, a new service that will transform mobile payments with an easy, secure and private way to pay. In Staples over 1,400 stores in the United States, Apple Pay works with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch, upon availability.

Staples was among the first companies to add support for Apple Pay in its iOS app when Apple publicly released the feature with iOS 8.1 on October 20th last month, and promised to add in-store support for it “within a few weeks.”

Additionally, Staples updated its official iOS app today to accept Apple Pay as a payment method for online orders. While in-store Apple Pay purchases are limited to iPhone 6 and 6 Plus (and soon Apple Watch) users, those with an iPad Air 2 or mini 3 will be able to use it in-app.

Apple Pay has been the most successful NFC mobile payment service ever with users activating more than a million credit cards in only 72 hours of the feature going live. While most major retailers are supporting Apple Pay, including Disney and Walgreens. However, certain retailers like Rite Aid, CVS and other retailers have disabled support for Apple Pay and are working on their own contactless payment system scheduled to go live next year.
