Many people face storage space problems after upgrading their devices to iOS 8. Apple has come under heavy criticism for selling 8GB and 16GB iOS devices, which barely have enough space for doing OTA updates. It looks like that the company is highlighting a new gift that was discovered that updating to iOS 8.1.1 increases the user available storage by 500MB.

My iPhone 6 had 1.8 GB of free space on iOS 8.1, the least that was required in order to do an OTA update to iOS 8.1.1. After updating, I now have 2.3 GB of free space, which is exactly 500MB. Other users are reporting similar, or even more, increases in available storage space. iMore reports:

After hearing about it from several readers last night, I tested it on a couple iPads in my possession, and in both cases post-update storage availability grew considerably. My iPad mini 3 it went from 7.5 GB remaining to 7.9 GB remaining. My iPad Air 2 went from 40.9 GB to 42.8 GB.

While the 500MB won’t sound much for 64GB and 128GB devices, for those who constantly run out of storage space, this extra 500MB is a welcome change. It can hold more photos, music and apps.

Of course this is a nice trick from Apple to let users upgrade their devices to iOS 8.1.1 which kills iOS 8 untethered jailbreak… So the question here, are you ready to give up your jailbreak for 500MB free extra storage ?
