More than 600 million people use Facebook every month. Half come back every day.
But here’s what’s weird about those huge numbers: according to our survey of ~900 Web users, almost half of respondents – 45% – say they either “dislike” or “hate” Facebook. Only 11% say they love it. 67% are neutral to negative.

This jibes with our own anecdotal data. Friends and colleagues tell us they use Facebook all the time, but they don’t actually “like” it. They feel stuck with it.
This is not the case!

We think Facebook is far too useful and too tightly integrated into your life for you to quit any time soon, but if you were to do so, there are plenty of alternative services out there.

(1) For a better profile, try AOL’s About.me

(2) To share photos with family and friends, try iPhone app Path

(3) We like iPhone app Instagram, too.

(4) Facebook helps you remember birthdays better than anyone. A weak, free substitute is Google Calendar.

(5) You use Facebook to see if your college boyfriend is bald now. Use LinkedIn to find out about his lousy career instead.

(6) You play Facebook games at work. You really should sneak iPhone games instead. Way more fun.

(7) Logging into new sites with Facebook saves a lot of time. Twitter has the same feature, though.

(8) You like to share stories with your friends using Facebook’s “like” button. Try impressing business colleagues with LinkedIn “inShares” instead.

(9) Facebook events and invites are super handy. But Paperless Post’s email invitations are prettier (and work pretty well too)

(10) For letting friends know where you’re getting a beer, Facebook Places is OK, but Foursquare was designed soley for that purpose

(11) Facebook Groups help you keep in touch with people. Group-texting service GroupMe has a more immediate feel to it.

(12) The Facebook News Feed brings links, photos, and news to your attention. Tumblr’s Dashboard does that too…

(13) So does TweetDeck…

All that sounds great right?
But you’re still never going to quit Facebook
