iphone 8 concept

A set of 3 photos allegedly depicting an iPhone 8 prototype has been leaked into the wild last night. These images have been published by Benjamin Geskin resulting in excitement and worry (depending on someone’s point of view.) The publisher claims that the images have been obtained from an Apple insider and show an early iPhone 8 prototype.

The alleged prototype of the iPhone 8 shown in the photos does not appear to have the front-facing FaceTime camera and the speaker integrated within the display. This one feature is widely speculated to make its way in the final model due this fall. The images show a “chin” at the top of the display to house these components which seems thinner than the current iPhones.

The photos show the device came in a box with an iPhone 7 protector applied on the front side of the device probably to conceal the true identity. And interestingly, there’s a blue “passport” in the box as well. All the iPhone prototypes are accompanied by this passport for quality assurance and control testing.

Sonny Dickson, an Austrailian leaker, says this about the ‘passport’:

Each component or product that is tested they document in the page. The person writes their initials next to it and any notes about it passing or failing or any other comments. It makes its way through each test and person. It then is finally sent with its ‘passport’ from China to Apple.

Despite all these images and claims from Geskin, we are still unsure if this is one of the iPhone 8 prototypes Apple has reportedly been testing this year or it simply is a dummy unit conceived based on rumors and reports.
