After a story published in February by Fast Company claiming that Apple iPhone 8 would cost $1,000, or may be even $1,200 or more, The New York Times has come up with its own report. The NYT claims that the fruit company is looking to sell its 10th-anniversary premium iPhone model “for around $999.”

According to the people who have knowledge about Apple’s premium OLED iPhone model, the handset will be priced at around $999. If this turns out to be true, we are looking at a base-model of iPhone 8 for this price tag. Apple is said to plan on launching iPhone 8 in three storage options: 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB. If Apple does not deviate from its past pricing strategy, each storage increment should cost an additional $100.

This pricing strategy can easily be compared with Apple’s arch-rival Samsung. Samsung has launched its latest Galaxy Note 8 with 6.3-inch AMOLED display, 64GB internal storage (expandable with microSD card), dual camera setup with OIS, and IP68 water and dust resistance. Samsung is going to retail Note 8 with S Pen stylus for $960 at Verizon, $950 at AT&T, and $930 at T-Mobile.

iPhone 8 is expected to feature dual camera setup on the rear with OIS on both the telescope and wide-angle lenses. Other rumored features include 3GB RAM, minimal bezel, functional area on the display with a virtual home button. The NYT report also reiterates a 5.8-inch OLED display and minimal bezels for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8 model.

“Other new features include facial recognition for unlocking the device, along with the ability to charge it with magnetic induction,” the sources said.

The fruit company is expected to launch three different models in 2017. Two of these are expected to be iterative ‘s’ models of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and the third one is the premium iPhone 8. Apple is expected to unveil 2017 iPhone models on September 12 during a media event.

We’re expecting invites to go out next week.
