Apple officially pushed the second developer beta of iOS 11.1 software update on October 9th, 2017. This latest installment of iOS 11.1 beta releases not only brings new emoji to the devices but also brings back a much-requested feature.

3d touch multitasking

Back in the month of June, Craig Federighi of Apple had confirmed that Apple will be temporarily removing the 3D Touch gesture for app switching/multitasking from its mobile operating system. The Apple fans did not like the announcement and when with their loud feedback against the change, especially through social media platforms. After several months, Apple announced that the 3D Touch gesture for quick multitasking will be making its return without providing a specific date or time frame.

With the release of iOS 11.1 beta 2, it is now confirmed that Apple has re-added the 3D Touch multitasking gestures back into its mobile operating system. The only reason provided by Apple for the removal of this feature was a “technical constraint,” and did not bother to provide any further details on that “technical constraint”. Whatever the issue was, Apple seems to have fixed it, so returns the 3D Touch multitasking gesture.

As the name suggests, the 3D Touch multitasking gesture is only available on devices that support 3D Touch. The feature allows users to hard press on the left edge of the iPhone/iPad display to quickly access multitasking feature. the gesture reduces too much dependency on the Home button to activate app switcher.

The return of 3D Touch multitasking gesture is one of the many new features discovered in the recently released iOS 11.1 beta updates. Currently, the iOS 11.1 has reached 2nd beta phase for the developer and the public beta testers are also expected to get the same release this week. If you’re enrolled in iOS beta testing program and have been missing this gesture, this should be a delightful news for you. Here is how to download and install iOS 11.1 beta software.
