During the unveiling of iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, Apple claimed that the A12 Bionic chipset inside these new devices offers 15 percent better performance than the A11 Bionic chip of the iPhone X. On the other hand, the company claimed that iOS 12 brings performance improvements to older devices. So, the question that arises here is that Whether the new iPhone XS line of devices offer any meaningful performance improvement over their predecessor i.e. the iPhone X? Hit the jump to find out the answer.
Apple has not only featured its latest chipset inside the new iPhone, but the iPhone XS Max also has a 4GB of RAM – 1GB more than the iPhone X. More RAM means better multitasking performance. So how do all these new hardware improvements translate into real-world use? Check out the speed test performed by YouTuber EverythingApplePro below.
The speed test conducted by EverythingApplePro reveals that both the iPhone X and iPhone XS Max are incredibly fast devices. At the beginning of the test, iPhone X went heads on with the iPhone XS Max at loading apps, but as soon as the tester starts loading more and heavy applications, the extra GB of RAM inside the iPhone XS Max came in handy and loaded those apps quite smoothly.
iPhone XS Max also outshined iPhone X at processing a 4K video and finished the first round of test in 2 minutes and 10 seconds. While the iPhone X took 2 minutes and 44 seconds to complete the first round of test.
Despite having a 4GB RAM modules, iPhone XS Max unloaded most of the apps running in the background and the iPhone X with 3GB RAM fared even worse. iPhone XS took 43 seconds to complete the second round of loading apps, while the iPhone X took almost a minute. Overall, the test reveals that the additional GB of RAM could not have a massive impact on multitasking.
Apple also claims iPhone XS to be 30 percent faster than the iPhone X in launching apps. However, the A12 Bionic chipset and the additional GB of RAM on iPhone XS Max could not show any significant difference. The slightly better performance of iPhone XS Max is only noticeable when loading heavy apps and games.
Apple also claimed the iPhone XS series would be about 30 percent faster than the iPhone X in opening apps. However, in most cases, both phones were largely the same, with the slightly better performance of the iPhone XS Max only being visible while loading heavy apps and games.
The test definitely does not show iPhone XS Max as a compelling upgrade over the iPhone X in terms of performance. Share your views in the comments section below.
