How does the bug work? Well, the viewable photos must have a timestamp newer to that of the iPhone `s internal clock. So, if you are one of those who keep changing their time zones, then you will feel the sting.
iOS 5 unlike previous firmwares allows you to quickly take a picture from the lock screen by double tapping the Home button. Afterwards, a small camera icon appears to the right of the “slide to unlock†bar. If your passcode is on, you will need to enter your 4-digit PIN to access the camera roll.
Let`s test this bug:
- Set your iPhone`s date to some time in the past. Make sure your phone is locked.
- Now access your camera roll from your phone lock screen. You`ll see every photo taken after your phone`s internal date.
Apple should not rely on a simple time stamp to restrict image access . . . Changing the iPhone’s clock–[forward or backward]–should not affect its security. We can’t guarantee the clock will always monotonically [move] forward, and when it doesn’t, the system should fail-secure.
Well, like we said, it’s not exactly a fatal flaw, but who can live with the thought that anyone take take a sneak peek into his private photos?
